Tonik Health Insurance

Tonik health insurance is underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield and operates in six states, including New Hampshire, California, Nevada, Colorado, Georgia and Connecticut. It covers preventative and emergency care, dental, vision and prescription. Tonik does not cover maternity unless you purchase a rider separately. Tonik is mainly targeted at children, college students, and recent college graduates, but is open to anyone.

How do you get Tonik? It's easy. Just apply online. If you're in good health, you will be approved in about 15 minutes. Tonik has three plans which are basically the same except for the amount you pay each month, your co-pay, the number of doctor visits you can have and your deductible.

Tonik insurance has a plan to meet everybody's needs. The Tonik 5000 plan, aka the 'thrill seeker' plan, starts at $150 per month, has a co-pay of $20 and a deductible of $5000. The Tonik 3000, aka the 'part-time daredevil' plan starts at $167 per month, has a co-pay of $30 and a deductible of $3000, and the Tonik 1500, aka 'the calculated risk taker' plan, starts at $189 per month, has a co-pay of $40 and a deductible of $1500.

The Tonik 1500 does have a higher monthly cost, and a higher co-pay, but the deductible is a lot lower than the other Tonik programs. What exactly is a deductible? A deductible is the amount you have to pay for some services, like x-rays, anesthesia or blood work, before Tonik will pay. Once you reach the deductible amount, Tonik will pay the full cost of these services and you will not pay anything. The deductible does not apply to preventative care, like mammograms and immunizations, so you would just pay your co-pay. If you can afford the cost per month, take a good look at what the Tonik 1500 offers.

One of the best things about all of the Tonik plans is the prescription coverage. This can really get expensive if you don't have some type of insurance. With Tonik, your generic prescriptions can purchased at your local pharmacy with a $10 co-pay for a 30-day supply, or you can get your prescriptions by mail with a $20 co-pay for a 90-day supply. The mail in option is the better deal and will save you time and money over the long term. Ordering by mail is easy. It actually can be done online and takes about 10 minutes to sign up. About 10 days before you need a refill, all you do is go to the website and order the medication. In a few days, your medication will be delivered right to your mailbox. Mail order is definitely the way to go if you have to take your medicine every day.

Overall, I would recommend that anyone who needs health insurance coverage take a look at each of the Tonik plans online. Then get a quote, either online or from an insurance agent, to see which plan would actually suit your situation the best. With Blue Cross Blue Shield underwriting Tonik you know your health coverage will be around when you need it most.
